The single biggest obstacle to consistent social media for local service businesses isn't effort — it's not knowing what to post. So here it is: a complete 30-day content calendar framework you can adapt to any service business.
This is the exact posting structure we use for our clients. Customize the topics for your industry and you'll have a month of content in under an hour.
The Weekly Formula
Post four times per week. Rotate through these four content types:
Monday: Educational tip
A piece of genuinely useful advice related to your services. "3 signs your water heater needs replacing." "Why your AC is costing you more than it should." Real value, no sales pitch.
Wednesday: Before/After or Work showcase
Show your actual work. Before and after photos. A job you're proud of. A problem you solved. Proof that you're good at what you do.
Friday: Social proof
A customer review turned into a graphic. A testimonial. A thank-you to a long-term client. Let your customers sell for you.
Saturday or Sunday: Human moment
Your team. Your story. A behind-the-scenes moment. The personal content that makes people choose you over the competitor with the same price.
Monthly Add-Ons
Beyond the weekly formula, add these monthly pieces:
- One seasonal post — tie your services to what's happening in the weather or calendar
- One offer or promotion — a seasonal discount, a referral incentive, a package deal
- One video — even a 30-second phone video of you explaining something performs far better than static posts
Batch your content creation. Set aside 2 hours on the first Sunday of each month to plan all 16+ posts. Take photos in bulk during jobs that week. Write captions all at once. Schedule with Buffer or Later. You'll spend less than 3 hours total on social media for the entire month.
"Consistency on social media is a system problem, not a creativity problem. Build the system once and the content follows naturally."
What to Do When You Don't Know What to Post
Default to answering a question. Go through your last 20 customer conversations and find the question that came up most. Answer it on Instagram. That question is your audience speaking directly to you about what content they need. You'll never run out of ideas if you keep listening to your customers.
